The pioneering Jamaican recording engineer died in London on May 9, 2010.
He helped set up Coxsone Dodd's Studio One in the 60s, and both Channel One and Dynamic Sounds in the 70s. Read more.

Playlist for May 7, 2010

By request, and only two weeks late!

The backing track is the Warning riddim.

We’re big fans of the Warning riddim here, having played, in the recent past, the original version by Desmond Young, the dub by the Fe Me Time All Stars (“Black Rights”), I Roy’s take, called “Double Warning” and Jah Wobble’s remix thereof from the Select Cuts from Blood and Fire series. All were produced by the mighty Jimmy Radway, not one of the most prolific, but one of the very best reggae producers of the glorious 1970s.

We fulfilled the request with Version 2 of "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing", which Mick Hucknall picked for his Blood & Fire personal anthology. If you want to hear Big Youth’s Version 1 instead, here it is, alongside Desmond Young’s original.
